Handwoven herringbone wool cloche hat. Made in Nova Scotia
This 1930s style cloche hat is made by me in my Lunenburg, Nova Scotia studio. The fabric was woven from Canadian wool by another Lunenburg artisan. The hat is fully lined, so that it feels soft next to the skin.
The Maisie Hat is named after Maisie Dobbs, from the Maisie Dobbs mystery books. Somehow, this no fuss, practical yet stylish little cloche made me think of a lady detective from the 1930’s. The hat exudes independence, confidence and understated beauty.
This listing is for the green hat shown in the first two photos.
This cloche sits above the ears, although I can also make one that covers the ears if requested.
Wool is a wonderful fabric for wearing in the rain. The natural lanolin in the wool repels water and when it does start to get wet it stays warm.
The brim can be worn up or down.
A head size is very important for this hat as there is no stretch.
Here are my measuring instructions:
To measure your head, take a soft tape measure and measure around your head just above the tips of the ears, above the eyebrows and around the largest part of the back of your head. Keep the tape measure parallel with the floor, don’t let it swoop down towards your neck. Measure a few times to make sure that you are consistently getting the same number.
