Description
A fingering weight singles yarn that has been naturally dyed with *Madder root. It weighs 112gm/4 oz and has 418m/437yds per skein. It is 100% Canadian wool, primarily Rambouillet. It is both grown and milled in Canada and is very minimally processed. This is a woollen spun yarn. Woollen spun yarn is very airy and has a natural halo. Air is trapped inside the strand which makes it naturally insulating as well as very light. Woollen spun yarn is bouncy and squishy.
Is this yarn soft? I would say, on a scale of 1-10 it’s a 6, but soft is a very subjective word. Rambouillet is a soft breed, short fibres also contribute to its softness. While not scratchy, it definitely feels woolly. Personally, I find it soft and cuddly, but that’s me.
I adore this yarn for shawls and hats, but if knit at a tighter gauge it’s also great for sweaters. Woollen spun yarn pills more easily with abrasion, but I have found that this is minimized by a tight gauge. A tighter gauge is not necessary for shawls. The lightness and warmth of these garments make them well worth the bit of depilling you’ll need to do from time to time.
*Madder root will shift colour when soaked in an alkaline soap. Be sure to use a ph neutral soap when washing knitted items that have been naturally dyed.
I included a photo of a shawl knit from this wool, so that you can get a sense of how it knits up.
